Death's Door Coffee Full-Pot Bag
A signature dark roast blend since 2003, our Death’s Door coffee blends the best beans from Costa Rica and Sumatra to form one of our smoothest dark roasts you will ever drink.

Porte des Morts – or locally referred to as Death’s Door - is a strait located on the very tip of Door County Wisconsin linking Lake Michigan and the bay of Green Bay. It is exactly 36.1 miles from our café and roasting facility. This area, located between the tip of Door County and Washington Island, is a very narrow strait with shoals extended far from shore. If you could just imagine on a very cold early winter night before the ice moved in – the wind howling – the snow blowing – and someone trying to sail through those very rough waters. It takes a hearty soul to make that voyage.

Today, the passage is crossed regularly as people take the ferries from the mainland to the islands. It’s a truly beautiful area – but in the times before our modern ships and technology it could be dangerous. (By the way, when the Sturgeon Bay ship canal opened up – many ships and sailing vessels quit using this passage – due to time and safety!)

Our Death’s Door Dark Roast coffee harkens you back to the time when you needed a strong, full bodied coffee to get you through the night and through the straight. When you sip this coffee – we always ask that you raise your mug occasionally as a salute to the sailors that passed through Death’s Door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My second review (much less negative! lol ) So, When I wrote my first review on Death's Door, It was an unfair review. I hadn't tasted it, which is what the review should really be about, the flavor and body, not the marketing. I ordered some, drank it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's robust, rich and strong, perfect for me in regards to an unflavored coffee. I still don't know why they waited 15 years to put it on the internet, and only after Deathwish became successful, but I will order Death's Door again. Thanks to Erin for e-mailing me, and for the wonderful woman who personally called me, whose name I have shamefully forgotten! We had a great conversation after I spent many hours researching the history of Door County and the rich history behind their coffee. Super excited about the Peach and Strawberry newbies!! Thanks! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Favorite New favorite coffee! Wish I had bought more than a full pot bag, it was that good. Please read the story behind the name of this coffee; it's really neat and has NOTHING to do with Deathwish coffee

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Glad I tried it but not my roast I always get excited when a new roast is introduced. I usually am more of a medium roast but wanted to give it a try. The aroma when I opened the bag was oh so enticing and I couldn't wait to taste Death's Door. I must say that I think that I discovered that I truly am not a dark roast person in the same way I do not prefer Guinness beer. If you are a person who enjoys a hearty dark roast then this one is probably for you. The flavor lingers so if this is your roast you will be very pleased.
