Death's Door Coffee 5 lb. Bag Ground
A signature dark roast blend since 2003, our Death’s Door coffee blends the best beans from Costa Rica and Sumatra to form one of our smoothest dark roasts you will ever drink.

Porte des Morts – or locally referred to as Death’s Door - is a strait located on the very tip of Door County Wisconsin linking Lake Michigan and the bay of Green Bay. It is exactly 36.1 miles from our café and roasting facility. This area, located between the tip of Door County and Washington Island, is a very narrow strait with shoals extended far from shore. If you could just imagine on a very cold early winter night before the ice moved in – the wind howling – the snow blowing – and someone trying to sail through those very rough waters. It takes a hearty soul to make that voyage.

Today, the passage is crossed regularly as people take the ferries from the mainland to the islands. It’s a truly beautiful area – but in the times before our modern ships and technology it could be dangerous. (By the way, when the Sturgeon Bay ship canal opened up – many ships and sailing vessels quit using this passage – due to time and safety!)

Our Death’s Door Dark Roast coffee harkens you back to the time when you needed a strong, full bodied coffee to get you through the night and through the straight. When you sip this coffee – we always ask that you raise your mug occasionally as a salute to the sailors that passed through Death’s Door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knocking on Death's Door I felt a little trepidation at this coffee's name--until I read the explanation. Great local color idea! So far I've only made it a cup at a time in my Keurig machine, which leaves most coffees a little weak. But Death's Door is still as strong as a good dark roast should be, while at the same time as smooth as Lake Michigan on a still, quiet morning. Wonderful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One pot and it was an instant favorite! We love the variety of the full pot bags, but we knew after one pot we needed more of this rich flavor on a regular basis so we ordered 5 pounds! If we had not tried the full pot pack of Death's Door when it was introduced, we would be missing out on that perfectly rich flavor and aroma.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasant surprise! My husband usually will have the run-of-the-mill grocery store coffee. On a whim I bought him some Death's Door coffee for Father's Day. He loved it so much that he asked me to order a 5# bag!!!! I think that alone speaks for this coffee!
