Awesome Chocolate Cake

“It is a family favorite, I got years ago from my aunt. Everyone requests it for birthdays. She always used just regular hot coffee, however I love the Door County Vanilla Cappuccino. I have also used the Irish Crème.”

Ingredients

Featured ingredient: Vanilla Cappuccino Coffee 10 oz. Bag Ground

CAKE

    • 2 C. flour
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1 tsp. baking powder
    • 2 tsp. baking soda
    • 3/4 C. baking cocoa
    • 2 C. sugar
    • 1 C. vegetable oil
    • 1 C. hot brewed Door County Coffee Vanilla Cappuccino flavored coffee
    • 1 C. milk
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 tsp. pure vanilla

FROSTING

    • 1 C. milk
    • 5 Tbsp. flour
    • 1/2 C. butter
    • 1/2 C. solid Crisco
    • 1 C. regular sugar
    • 1 tsp. pure vanilla
    • Chocolate Shavings Sprinkled on top (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Sift all dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add oil, hot brewed Vanilla Cappucino Coffee, 1 cup milk and mix on medium speed 2 minutes.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla, mix additional 2 minutes. (Batter will be thin.)
  4. Pour into two 8 or 9 inch greased and floured baking pans.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
  6. Cool in pans 15 min. then remove onto rack and cool completely before frosting.
  7. For frosting, combine milk and flour in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until very thick, stirring constantly.
  8. Remove from heat, cover and refrigerate until completely chilled.
  9. Beat butter and Crisco; add sugar and vanilla until creamy; then add chilled milk and flour mixture. Beat on high in mixer for 10 minutes.
  10. Frost cooled cake.
  11. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings (optional)
